Deepika Birdi

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Deepika Birdi is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapy Ontario, the CRPO.

Deepika has worked in health clinics including community mental health centers, non-profit organizations, and in schools, both in Canada and internationally. Her experience has allowed her to develop trauma therapy skills, and she specializes in family therapy and treating intergenerational issues, attachment issues, psychoeducation, special needs, mood disorders, and anxiety.

Deepika fosters holistic wellness, and her personalized approach integrates therapy in everyday life situations. She strives to create a safe and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their concerns and develop effective strategies to overcome challenges. She builds a strength-based, anti-oppressive, and relational space where participants can explore what’s inside themselves and discover inner healing. Utilizing neuroscience, art therapy, attachment, and trauma therapy, Deepika empowers individuals to tap into the inherent capacity of their body, brain, and nervous system for personal growth.

Deepika is passionate about helping others and has over fifteen years of clinical experience in the field of Mental Health. Her empirical knowledge of people, learned on the job, informs her evidence-based therapeutic interventions which she offers to individuals of all ages. Deepika’s approach is rooted in person-centered, attachment, and nervous-system principles which she harnesses to provide a foundation for healing and transformation. She has done lots of individual counseling and also group therapy, conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and implementing interventions. By tailoring her approach to each client’s unique needs, she strives to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters personal growth and resilience. She is well-versed in various therapeutic modalities, including narrative therapy, attachment-based therapy, CBT, DBT, art therapy, sand play, mindfulness-based techniques, and solution-focused brief therapy.

Deepika holds a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology obtained from the University of Nottingham UK, an MPhil in Special Education from the University of Cambridge, UK and is currently pursuing a Master’s Diploma in Art therapy from the Toronto Art Therapy Institute. Her current research focuses on art therapy intervention for youth with suicidal ideation. Her excellent communication skills, empathy, and her ability to build rapport allow for more meaningful connections with her clients. She creates a therapeutic alliance based on trust and respect. Deepika believes in empowering individuals to become active participants in their own well-being.
